Folks, we are getting older. Correction, we are old. If you are 50 you can subscribe to AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). AARP is a great big political machine! It is also a magazine with articles on health, health care, food, and every facet of life we need to learn about. So it can be considered an educator. I've certainly learned a lot from reading it each month.
But what we pay for is not only the magazine, we pay our lobbyist. AARP representatives can be seen and heard in every state's Congress and on Capitol Hill in the nation's capital. What are they doing? They are protecting our interest. AARP works to ensure that Medicare and Social Security never falls on the chopping block of budget cuts!
If you are 55 and older, you qualify for reduced rents in many apartments with Federal tax-credit offers to the buildings owners. Make it to sixty five, you've got it made in the shade. Discounts on everything from riding the bus and subways, eating out at many restaurants and from 5-10% off at supermarkets and big-box stores, who appreciate our disposable income.
Medicare kicks in too. You no longer pay for hospitalizations (Part A). You only pay for outpatient care, i.e., doctors, , lab and Xray, MRI and CT scans (Part B) & prescriptions (Part D). So what about part C, you ask? You don't even want to go there, yet. So sign up for Medicare 6 months before your 65th birthday, to be sure it begins on your birthday.
I'm getting tired now. I'm old too! Holla at you later.
